Shadow of the Colossus

Now here's something I've always wanted to do but never got my head wrapped around it to do so. It's like a mini review of the games I play that have simple but powerful symbolism and I would very much like to share with my fellow readers. Without further ado, let's begin.

Shadow of the Colossus is gonna be my focus in this entry for obvious reasons. The story is actually pretty simple. You are a mere mortal. Your true love has died and you want to bring her back to life. The twist is in order to revive her back you are tasked to kill 16 Colossi (plural for Colossus) in total with your magical sword or something like that. These Colossi are magnificent beings and are pretty much larger than you tenfold. Literally. They have certain weak points that you have to cleverly climb to get to and stab.

The gameplay is quite unique. Like I mentioned earlier, you have to climb your enemy and carefully navigate your way to its weak spot. You have a stamina bar to keep watch as well to see how long your grip will last as well as your breath underwater. It offers a huge open-world level that is very rarely seen these days. Just the sheer scale of how big a Colossus is in comparison to your character is a holy wow factor in itself.

At first encounter, you may think this Colossus is trying to kill me but not unless you kill it first. But as more and more Colossus fall down to your feet, you start to question why must you kill them? As aforementioned, you are just trying to bring your lover back to life. But is it worth it though? Killing all these magnificent beings just because you love someone that much?

You'll begin to wonder what are those black tentacles or seemingly gas like things that bleed out of a Colossus every time you kill one. It actually infects your character for a certain reason. I will not spoil it that much but you can check out the link below for the full walkthrough. This guy is naturally funny and makes every game walkthrough he does more interesting.

My main point in this is to actually ponder, what are the risks you are willing to take for a loved one? Is it really worth it? After everything you've done for them, must it be this way? You will feel sorry for the rest who are hurt by your actions, just like in Shadow of the Colossus. But to what extent are you willing to hurt them just for the sake of one person? Bottom line is, it's a game unlike any other. And for those who aren't into games that much, just click the link and watch it like you're watching TV. Trust me, you won't regret it.
